Team Nike is Embracing Festive Season With Its “Somos Familia” Collection For Día de Muertos 2022! It continues its tradition of celebrating Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead in English) with upcoming sneakers. To do so, the Beaverton-based brand has chosen special Dunk High and Air Force 1 Low colourways for its all-new “Somos Familia” capsule.
Mexican descent traditionally commemorates this holiday with friends. They usually host certain offerings and imagery of deceased loved ones to help guide their souls back home. As you can see, Dunk Highs in the collection are in the split design. At the same time, it represents salt and water. Moreover, they are common items offered during the November event.
On the other hand, overlays enjoy “Yellow Ochre” exteriors. In contrast, the toe boxes and quarters take inspiration from the sun for the embroidery. Additionally, the lower lateral heel feature Swoosh’s Día de Muertos logo. Besides, insoles follow suit for extra flair.
Secondly, Air Force 1 takes inspiration from Pan de Muerto. It is a traditional dish they bake during the celebration. In addition, it has the shape in a circular pattern, which symbolizes the cycle of life and death. So, you’ll see repeating circles along the rims of the quarter panels. What’s more, the toe boxes also feature the same. Other details include split-coloured Swooshes featuring exposed stitchings. Furthermore, we spot shaggy suede overlays. Meanwhile, stark black accents dress up the sole pieces and top of the heels.
