The 1989 introduction of the original 550 left its mark on basketball courts nationwide. The 550 was retired after its initial run and put away in the archives until it was reintroduced in new runs in late 2020 and returned to the full-time lineup in 2021 when it quickly gained worldwide popularity. The newest low-top pair applies tonal wash in "Sea Salt" and "NB Navy" to the basketball oxford, continuing the silhouette's rise in inline selections.

The NB 550 swaps out its regular clad-leather construction for suede-treated panels wearing a faded "Sea Salt" colour after dressing several of its classic efforts. A worn-out dark navy enters the mix along the outline of the latter symbol in unison with the tongue's branded tab and surrounding trim. The shoe is then brightened by crisp white bulbous "N" logos, laces, and sock liners.

"Raw Sugar" highlights break up the neutral look by lining the panels, focusing around the heel overlay, and concluding with white and grey tones on the sole.
