Off-White x Nike Air Terra Forma White DQ1615-100

The Off-White x Nike Air Terra Forma White is set for a December release, but sneakerheads aren't sure what to make of it yet as it's a new silhouette. The late Virgil Abloh designed the Terra Forma as part of a whole host of Nike products that will be released in honour of the king of design. This "White" colourway is one of two shoes dropping at the end of 2022. The new silhouette has yet to find its mark within sneakerhead culture, but time will tell if it becomes a favourite among fans.

Virgil and his highly creative team designed the Terra Forma from the ground up, an utterly different process than any other Virgil x Nike creation we have seen. True to form, Virgil used WhatsApp messages to keep the creativity flowing and the narrative strong. The Off-White x Nike Terra Forma will be another successful collaboration for the two prominent brands, but it's too soon to say if the new silhouette is here to stay or not.

With the 'Nike way' in mind, Virgil and his team designed a shoe that looks to the past with much of its design language, particularly influenced by Nike's 90s ACG line. They took inspiration from Japanese rock festivals, specifically Fuji Rock when creating footwear that would protect wearers while keeping up with current fashion trends. Virgil, who loves the brand's cutting-edge style, commemorated this with features like spikes on the sole and a zip-up tongue. To put his own spin on things, he chose to have the zip-up feature placed underneath the laces instead of in the usual spot.

The classic Off-White design is also featured on the hang tag and orange square stitched onto the Swoosh. Additionally, the words “Tread” and “Lightly” are written into the tread pattern itself so that wherever you walk, you leave both a physical and metaphorical mark. Recognizable Nike silhouettes are often identified by their soles, which was Virgil’s intention with Terra Forma-- to create a lasting impression on sneaker culture.
