Sandy Liang Vans Authentic Floral White

Sandy Liang is a New York City native and often channels the city through her designs. With her third Vans collection, which was released just blocks from her Lower East Side shop, the designer decided it was appropriate to offer each item near to where it started. This Sandy Liang Vans Authentic Floral White approach also allowed Liang to have more creative control over her designs. “It was really important to me that I designed everything from scratch,” she explained of the process. “I didn’t want to just put my name on a product.” The collection includes a pair of shoes inspired by the city’s ubiquitous yellow taxis and a T-shirt and tote bag printed with a map of Manhattan. Liang also created two new takes on the Vans’ classic checkerboard pattern, one in black and white and the other in shades of blue. By working together, the two have created a love letter to “grandma fashion, sport femme, nostalgia, and humour”, which is evident in the footwear brand’s many classics. The Sk8-Hi appears in its standard and Platform 2.0 variant, exploring child-like femininity with features such as lace skirts or floral embroideries. The latter playful themes also appear in other places, giving solid-coloured and patterned shoes a youthful feel. The more neutral Authentic conversely goes for doodles one might find in a grade schooler’s notebook; its upper is adorned with cheerful butterflies. As for the Half Cab, that pair relies on lush green sherpa and delicate flower-shaped eyelets.
